@ryu windows is a joke, windows xp used to run on like 96MB of RAM with almost full api compatibility to today

@mischievoustomato @subnetter @sun And Sasha Levin is literally an nVidia employee that I think was first pioneering LLM usage with patchset summaries for emails like a year or two ago.

Putting the "AI" aside, putting the discourse and politics aside, Linus and most FOSS developers/project leads have failed to guard their projects from getting sucked into various proprietary ecosystems. That problem was ongoing and persistent, LLMs were just the final nail in the coffin since now they can just churn out a copy without copyleft licensing .

@subnetter @sun I've never used Windows for anything except some software in a VM. But it's a rather well designed OS under the hood.

@mischievoustomato @sun @subnetter Yeah "spite forks" or whatever you call them have a bad track record except for smaller niche applications where a few developers can make a difference. For something as big and as institutional as the Linux kernal I just can't see it getting replaced, certainly not over this.
