@sendpaws
a) what in particular spurred this
b) how is it running a TRVE UNIX OS
c) how's the ARM hardware
@tadano I wanted to write a better fedi client for iOS and I got tired of seeing the Xenia Fox posting
@dt_oid the difference is in the FOSS there is nobody cracking the whip saying "write the code", like in that communist "but I thought I'd be doing X" meme.
Instead you have to deal with glorious shit like "why can't I know where the window position is" because there's no manager here to say "Okay, you'll do this or you'll have to put the fries in the bag".

@dt_oid they should step their game up imagine if they even had a fraction of the power they did in the 90s/00s instead it's Discord type shit
@niobleoum @Cocoa @mint >he thinks PCs are better
lol, lmao even, there's actually many laptops with soldered SSDs on top of soldered RAM being common on ESPECIALLY ThinkPads.

Decent gaming laptops haven't been $600 since 2024, they're $800 for the cheapest one at Micro Center.
@niobleoum @Cocoa @mint the main reason I bought this honestly was to do iOS dev because I tried an iPhone and the one thing that offended me was how godawful fedi clients are.
That and if I learn programming doing so it works out.
@Cocoa @niobleoum @mint I like the small ones but the soldered SSD ones are a no-go.
Don't know how much experience you have with Dell laptops, but many of them have a tendency to overheat. Also, this is an anecdotal experience, but after buying a refurb unit and a new BYD-manufactured battery for it (from Dell), the integrity had gone below 80% in a little over half a year. This was with responsible charging. If you're gonna splurge on a nicer XPS model, just get a Framework 13 or 16.
