I know multiple professional translators and they are worried about AI because they know it’s good enough

@sun about 5% of movie subtitle sentences are mistranslated slightly or catastrophically in real world movie theatres and nobody really cares, let alone OpenSubtitles ones, same goes for books; the first translations of Roadside Picnic for example are really bad into english, i am quite certain already older AIs of yester, maybe yesteryester year would do better jobs than all the old Roadside Picnic english translations (i know there is atleast 1 very good translation though somewhere)
also saw the markiplier movie at home in the cinema and there were subtitles; the subtitles were in english only lmfao

@lebronjames75 @sun I sometimes miss the insane subs old Hong Kong VCDs used to have. Nostalgia is weird.
@lebronjames75 people want to judge an llm against the world's best and most competent translations not the translation they were going to get without an llm
@sun as a proficient and near-native english enjoyer personally, i have NEVER seen a movie at home theaters without at least 5-10 outright story-important WRONG sentences in a movie theater professional translation; open subtitles is usually better (ive also seen some movies at home with better open subtitles subtitles than professional movie theater ones)
also i am a movie theater enjoyer which i guess is cringe to an extent even if i pirate the same movie at home before or after lol

@lebronjames75 fans have always produced better translations probably than some guy paid a little to shiit out a movie translation under a severe time restriction
@sun @lebronjames75 the eromanga fan scene sucks now because they use ai

Well its a language module, I'd be surprised if it didn't do well the thing it should be doing best.
That said, I'm not very fond of it.
@sun when reading manga i love context from people who do fan translations. like literal meanings, or references to some lore or pop culture i dont know. i think the bar for a good translator is skyrocketing
