@georgia @lizzie @rowb1t and people die as martyrs, soldiers, or to protect loved ones despite the fact that not diying is an important part of live. There's a bunch of shit in us dedicated to making us wanna reproduce, it's just more or less strong and as you've said, an important part of being human is to not just act on every instinct. Yet there's still murderers, rapists, some are so fat it kills them, others starve themselves to death, some will engage in insanely reckless behaviour just to get a thrill
@lizzie @snacks @rowb1t exactly, a human being is above other animals in that we aren't a slave to every instinct. we can and should transcend the world of the senses. and in addition to that, I'd argue that the gooner is an unnatural product of ubiquitous pornography, not someone who is merely following instinct.

Think about the sages that realized that sex energy is something we have and it's powerful and beautiful, that is just different in manifestation than others form of energy, and that can be used instead of wasting it.

I also think that the belief that pornography is fueled by sexual repression is a libertine take. if that were true sex addiction would be more common in conservative societies, not liberal ones.

I'm not arguing against control (when well understood the meaning of control), I'm arguing against repression.
@sathariel @lizzie @snacks @rowb1t you make a good point re homosexual males becoming presets and conservative politicians. the bacha bazi are similarly an extreme effect of gender apartheid. most priests watch porn ive heard as well. but regardless, I believe sex and porn addiction is more common in sexually "liberated" (lol) societies. I might be wrong though.

@sathariel @georgia @snacks @rowb1t tbh βcatholic priests rape children bc theyre celibateβ is a terrible example. the southern baptist convention also has a lot of pastors raping children and their pastors are highly encouraged to be (and almost always are) in sexually active marriages. it has more to deal with the kind of authority they wield over their communities than βrepressionβ

@snacks @lizzie @georgia @rowb1t I mean I just consider it a primitive desire like most of the human experience, like jealously, violence, sadness, good, evil. It just is, I don't really feel a way about sex other than discomfort because of being heavily sexualized in society from a young age, but that's not the result of sex itself and I recognize that.
Some people don't participate in it or have an interest and it makes no difference to me. I do notice when someone's entire identity revolves around sex or attention but that's an armchair psychology discussion for another day.
