is it better or worse than paying more* to live in an apartment, gaining no equity, having no land, being subject to the whims of the landlord, being told what pets you can or can't have? that's up to you or any other individual. some people prefer not being responsible for property taxes, broken toilets, loose door knobs, roof repair, etc. and that's fine too.

* - how MUCH more is debatable and dependent on location, but likely more.

they tell me rent is $5,000.

I've seen rents in the low $2k near here for duplexes. effectively full homes, 3 bedrooms, two floors. LR, DR, kitchen, 2 bath, yard, no HOA. still people complain. I'm not sure what the appropriate rent/home value ratio is? does the 1% rule still apply? the homes would sell for more than $300k.

the zoomers will not allow for even a second that unrealistic expectations are even a tiny factor in this.
