@professionalbigot69 @Mamako games are never supported on linux but work anyways. EA just blocks it actively out of their multiplayer normieslop because of "cheating".
@professionalbigot69 @Mamako anti-cheat for linux exists and works for games like halo btw. I played both halo anniversary and halo infinite online without problems. Microsoft ironically doesnt have a problem with linux gamers. EA does.

@WandererUber @teto @professionalbigot69 @Mamako disagree on this. all the smart people have stopped assuming playing online games with people they don't personally know can ever be cheat-free and have deleted all reliance on "anti-cheat" accordingly.

@professionalbigot69 @HatkeshiatorTND @teto @Mamako cheating will make people drop your game because they had a bad experience. Because most programmers don't know what they're doing, they use OOP in modern C++ and try client-side anti-cheat for the ten thousandth time.
If you were to actually stop or mitigate the problem, you would wipe the floor with the competition. So the smart ones are developing server-side detection. It's not rocket science.

Serious question, is there a market for a company that has live and AI/server side cheat monitoring (including VOD review) to peddle to these older C++ and client side games? Escape from Tarkov is one of my favorite games that is ruined by this epidemic.

Tarkov is also really janky so you can never be sure what actually happened and how you died. CS for example at least has (used to have?) demos you can pull from the server after the game, others have kill cams. Without those, people have very little to back their suspicions. Not to say that cheating isn't widespread, it is.

then you can just hook that watchdog either into the server binaries or have it join as a spectator on in-game matches

fwiw when i say "veloren" (as in veloren.net, an open source mmo (but i only ever play singleplayer)) my irl friends all hear "valorant". most of them use windows because "linux is complicated". dunno about other 3w countries but in india, being a heckin Good Faceless Member of Soyciety!!!! is highly regarded among all the people that give the country the image in your mind you likely have. these are people who oppose evicting bums from railway stations because It's Our Country's Roots, Bigot!!!
