my wife forced me to watch that halftime show and tbh the music sucked and the show was not that interesting. this really isn't a "I want to say I hate it without saying I hate it" statement. It was really just not great, certainly not superbowl-tier. the production was quite good, but all in service of a boring musician wiith boring music.

@sun I felt that way about last year's. It was insanely boring. I didn't even bother with this year's, since I really don't like either team and I didn't care for either the halftime show or the political undertones surrounding it
@mrsaturday
The illusion died with Janet Jackson for most people I think. They were undisputed as the biggest televised event of the year that everyone would watch and then talk about the next day at work. The halftime show used to be about having the biggest spectacle for its own sake. Now they have to invite controversy to even get talked about.

@leyonhjelm @sun People still get excited about it, but the Janet Jackson incident made it so they play it way too safe, and you end up with sanitized, boring junk. I don't know. I haven't seen a really good show at halftime for a while now.
On a related note, I had no idea that MTV got taken off the air until a week ago. Goes to show how much I've been paying attention.

Even before that there hadn't been a good one in a while.
As far as MTV I think they just cut a lot of channels doing music videos from what it looks like, not fully not broadcasting anymore. Nobody cares though because youtube killed the very idea.

@leyonhjelm @sun Prince's performance was really, really good. Apart from that, it seems like it's more about the honor of being invited than the concert itself.
I guess it was just the music video channels. Again, shows how out of touch I've been recently. And yeah, Youtube did kill the idea, and I don't think people really care much about music videos anymore anyway. You can tell there was a huge drop in production value between 2000 and 2010.
