do people realize that a *lot* of ground beef in the USA is from Australia? Like 40% of all our ground beef is imported.

edit: found more recent numbers. Originally I was looking at an article that referenced a slightly older Drovers report as a source and it asserted 70% of ground beef was imported. The sourced Drovers article had confusing phrasing so I think the author of that article was mistaken. I went straight to their source and made the same mistake.

@stark the grade of beef we need to make ground beef is 90CL. We don't raise hardly any 90CL here, we want higher fat to make nice cuts for steaks.

Additionally we are at a near all time record low for our beef herd size in the USA and our ground beef demand is at a record high. People are broke, they want ground beef and cheap burgers. Oops.
