Copper is really effective but I wouldn't get hung up on it. You want a whole house filter or RO, or just filter your water out the tap.

Bacteria is particulate so it gets stuck in the filter.

The only thing you can't easily filter is dissolved ions such as chlorine and fluoride. But an RO will (to around 80-90%)

100ft well + send away a water sample to a test company.

Boiling is not needed unless you have bacterial contamination, which you shouldn't.

But the test company will give you a heavy metal assay which will give you a lot of peace of mind.

i will look into that also .. currently , i use a brita filter .. its just a pitcher though.. i did quit using it normally.. the water goes directly into a glass pitcher (the plastic one got cracked)

Reading up on 'concentrated' solar stills.

Looks straightforward, using parabolic mirrors for the heating process.

One can double tap the mirrors to drive Stirling engines for at least some electricity generation in those areas that don't have much regular wind...

If I was in that situation, I'd be looking at an RO

To distill water, you just need a hotter part and a cooler part. The hotter part needs to be 212 F but only IF your still is at atmospheric pressure. If you pull a partial vacuum then this number drops, which is pretty convenient if you're using solar.

Potentially because the main stream just gets gutted out (food deserts with private invite-only food coops for example)

But there's a cautionary side to this, b/c you can also end up like the Boar in South Africa and be hunted.
