Thing is I don't wanna depend on tourism. All these places that depend on tourism could easily work in manufacturing, be slightly poorer and have their peace. People who work in tourism also make less money because you barely need any qualifications, the only ones who cash out are the hotel owners and restaurant owners.

So yeah tourism is a blight inflicted by the capitalist class on everyone else. Going to the tourism place here is a clownshow too, fat Western women with whore tattoos, sternum chandelier, and nigger boyfriends. I don't ever wanna see this. It's like the West barfed all over us, there is no familiarity anymore, no class, no tranquility.

@wizardman I'm not oversimplifying anything, you're just unaware of the different categories of tourism. Ofc some Carribbean alcove will only have nice White people, but anything that can be reached with a cheap flight is an absolute lumpenprole shitshow, junkies, alcoholics, ugly women, shitskin companions.

The process and desire to change that is trivial, just turn it back to what it used to be 30-40yrs ago, when tourist visas were difficult to get and tourism was expensive.

@Dubbub I disagree with the "tourism could simply become manufacturing" since that depends on lots of factors.
That'd the oversimplification imo.
While tourism "just" requires a nice place to visit, be it for its history or nature.

But yeah, I agree with everything else.
And perhaps i also might not be fully aware of the true feeling of those locals or the tourists impact. That's fair.

Well, you can shove off all pollution into some no man's land like Nevada. But by that metric, you can shove all (almost) all tourism to some no man's land like Paris (French people hate Paris and avoid it).

But my point was that the guy spray-painting shit about tourists will absolutely positively go protesting any form of industry as well...

It's a problem for people that live there. But there's people that live next to steel mills too. I don't live next to either ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But the problem with Paris is not really the tourists, they're all Chinese and Americans who are *mostly* well behaved. The reason Paris is dirty is because they imported cheap labor.

Well, if we differentiate the cheap labor part - which there's just no excuse for that. The actual harm from tourists is really not that bad IMO. I lived in Paris for a few years and the tourists were not a real hassle.

But moreover, if you can justify having a steel mill which is dirty and nobody wants to live there, but it makes money - why can't you justify having a "tourist city": which is gaudy, over priced, and full of art museums, but makes money?
