@Turdicus credit card debt isnt even allowed here. Or at least I wouldnt know how to get it. They just take the money from your bank a month later and thats all a credit card does here
those are called "charge cards" here. they're uncommon but do exist

Here it's like "Visa" and you don't really know if it's being pulled out of your account instantly or getting settled at the end of the month.
I know in the US they have this weird thing where they ask you if they should run the card as credit or debit, so I guess they have 2 parallel charge systems...

@cjd @Turdicus @vonzeppelin debit is a different card that you always get and germans pay with that for everything irl. Credit card is basically not needed and never used. I only really encounter them when an employer gives me one to buy something. But those are charge back cards too

@cjd @Turdicus @vonzeppelin it's a seperate system so I cant really use it for steam games and such. You have to give written permission to companies like amazon and then they "take" it from your bank account. No credit card needed

So what you normally have is Gyrocard only and does not have the traditional Visa/Mastercard thing with a number + expiration + code ?
@cjd @Turdicus @vonzeppelin no it only has a very long number that starts with "DE" and you give that to employers and whatever so they can send you the money. And when it's "taken" from the account you have to sign something first. Thats how most rents are paid, or amazon bills. Automatically but without that "3 numbers on the back" stuff that credit cards have
I see... In France they have the Carte Bleu system, but that's just a backend execution layer for cheap settlement between French banks. Every card in France has a Visa number so they're usable anywhere. They do have the settle at the end of the month thingy...
But I typically use wise.com because it's easier than French banks, and they'll give you bank details in any country you want so you can invoice global customers... They issue a Visa card and money is removed from the account instantly.

@cjd @Turdicus @vonzeppelin I recently had to give a friend my "IBAN" (the long number thing on the debit card) because he doesnt even have paypal. Many germans dont want to use any "tech" that touches their bank accounts. Like a dragon hoarding gold

I haven't seen it marketed in years.
