@Turdicus credit card debt isnt even allowed here. Or at least I wouldnt know how to get it. They just take the money from your bank a month later and thats all a credit card does here

those are called "charge cards" here. they're uncommon but do exist

@cjd @Turdicus @vonzeppelin I only need it for online purchases where they dont offer paypal, klarna or just normal debit. Most germans dont have one

Is there a real differentiation between credit and debit?
Here it's like "Visa" and you don't really know if it's being pulled out of your account instantly or getting settled at the end of the month.

I know in the US they have this weird thing where they ask you if they should run the card as credit or debit, so I guess they have 2 parallel charge systems...

@cjd @Turdicus @vonzeppelin debit is a different card that you always get and germans pay with that for everything irl. Credit card is basically not needed and never used. I only really encounter them when an employer gives me one to buy something. But those are charge back cards too

Is a German debit a Visa thing that works in other countries, or is it some German-only payment network?

@cjd @Turdicus @vonzeppelin it's a seperate system so I cant really use it for steam games and such. You have to give written permission to companies like amazon and then they "take" it from your bank account. No credit card needed

So what you normally have is Gyrocard only and does not have the traditional Visa/Mastercard thing with a number + expiration + code ?
