a lot of my thought on the fediverse lately has been back to "how do you solve or improve the social problems of fedi with technical means"

people frequently say this is dumb and wrong but it's really not, it would only be if you said you could absolutely solve them. but clearly you can make social interaction better or worse by what technical choices you make on your platform. so, I think about it!

@sun @NonPlayableClown It encourages me to have more discussions rather than rage-post. It lets me see public threads that I might otherwise have missed. To see a thread continued on which I wouldn't otherwise know about since I don't get notified of them. It's not all negative. It treats replies like any other post and it was something I loved about GS when I first joined.

Talking about threads being something that you're not even involved with so you shouldn't see them is also anti-social. How can you be involved if you aren't aware of the thread? Can we only reply to threads if we were there at the start of them or if we are tagged in by someone?

It also makes instances seem quieter and more boring than they actually are if we don't see replies because most of the interaction comes from replies to posts. I'm just not seeing what you have here as the only or even main thing. It became less of a problem for me. On twitter, we used to have to add a dot at the start of posts I think so it would show up and get around replies which made drive-by posts worse than making it a normal part of every day conversation.
