@sun my 3d printer just werks for the most part tbh

@sun if ur printer is a crap ender 3 then it's another story but for the most part it's just knowing a couple basic design/printing principles like not printing things that are impossible to print like giant overhangs with no support or not having enough bed adhesion and how the strength from layer lines will affect the final part but it's pretty easy compared to most mechanical engineering/makering stuff

@shibao @sun who knew a cnc machine would require cnc levels of maintenance, at least now that we're past not including any maintenance automations the baseline is much better

@i @shibao I was waiting until it's almost appliance-tier and it seems like we're getting closer

@i @sun nah it's much less than cnc maintenance honestly. but it's not terribly trivial but like i think doing your brakes is way more technical than 3d printing, it's just different

@sun @i ngl i feel like bambus (and prusas if you wanna shell out for open sores) are basically already there

@shibao @sun the high end is definitely already appliance tier, but even the very cheap printers do a dozen times better than what was available before

still better to just not get one at all though for most people

@sun @i @shibao I have 2 Prusas. They seem like working okay, little trouble. In fact, I cycled through 1 by now. It was a Mk3S and it developed an issue with Y axis crash. I ran with with crash detection disabled for a few months, then bought another Mk4. Imagine my surprise when it turned out that they revved up the head. So now I have 2 Mk4s and they have disparate heads. At least the nozzles are compatible.

@zaitcev @sun @i yeah but no other manufacturer will give you kits to let you upgrade like the mk3s to a mk4, etc
