@sun why wouldn't this work? it sounds plausible
@sun yeah but like, you can't just say you disallow something while obviously profiting / receiving some sort of benefit (keeping the prices of lootbox items high) from it anyway, that's not how law works
@sun bro sold a steam deck for less than the price of the RAM
lmfao
lmfao
@kaia @sun I'm not seeing anything online that says you can't buy a Deck with Steam Funds, but there's absolutely no fucking way you can get 180$ from a skin (you'd have to have been exceedingly lucky or gambled on waiting for years) > 180$ Steam Deck > 180$ money, you'd 100% lose some while selling the Steam Deck, the market would be oversaturated
They're making at as if you can gamble and instantly cash out, but there's no way man

@coolboymew @kaia @sun You can get lucky and get super expensive skins but the steam market cap is $2000 anyone selling high end stuff is doing it through 3rd party sites.
The timing of this lawsuit is convenient after he beat a patent troll. I think it's just short hat tricks and they called in a favor from latisha since they bailed her out of her mortgage fraud shennanigans. They're just big mad that Valve is a really successful independant company and they don't control it. At the end of the day they want to control everything. Look at why they smeared Mel Gibson over passion of the christ. They cried anti semetic dog whistles but it was because the movie made 450 million dollars without hollywoods backing or approval. They absolutely couldn't stand someone being successful without them having any control of it and had to destroy him. It's the same bullshit here with Valve and these people.

@ooignignoktoo @coolboymew @kaia basically yeah this all ramped up instantly after he won that lawsuit and you can see the lines
@coolboymew @kaia @ooignignoktoo @sun there's lots of drops bigger than that, but the cheapest deck is also more than double that
lots of the examples are taken out their ass and no longer true, another easy "stop wasting time with ai" judgement awaiting

@i @kaia @ooignignoktoo @sun Yeah, I thought the price to be weird too, pretty sure it never even reached that in most first world currency even on sale. The amount of people that transferred CSGO winnings into a deck into money is probably extremely negligible
@whiteline lootboxes are bad but this lawsuit is full of lies apparently
@coolboymew @i @kaia @ooignignoktoo I don't know about steam but I've seen similar things where there's a disclaimer that explicitly says you can't purchase hardware with the funds
@coolboymew @kaia @ooignignoktoo @sun they will probably add a scanner like they did in France a few years ago
but the amount of money shuffling people have done with CS items is no joke, it's a whole shadow economy

@i @kaia @coolboymew @ooignignoktoo valve used to pay that greek commie economist to manage their economy
@sun @kaia @coolboymew @ooignignoktoo and steam definitely allows it, every market dump and pump there's people gloating about getting an index/deck and soon frame/machine from a price jump

@lolitechengineer @i @coolboymew @ooignignoktoo @kaia yeah I was wrong but I have seen it before on other platforms probably exactly to avoid this legal liability
@coolboymew @kaia @ooignignoktoo @sun friend of mine bought 2 steamdecks with skins.
he went around and asked people who quit games like CSGO and Dota for their skins and bought them for ~20% of the market rate.
so yes steam does allow that.
skins are gambling but cashing out isnt easy^^
