ice is breaking the law but the people telling you they need to be executed don't want any immigration enforcement at all so it's pretty much just communists being communists, which is a different flavor person who makes up lists of people to mass kill

@sun we had immigration enforcement before ICE and we can go back to that
@feld there is literally nothing wrong with deporting people if they aren't here legally, and it will never be "nice" to do that. but we can expect to not deport american citizens, use due process, not shoot people protesting
@sun @feld There's also the issue where ICE doesn't let USCIS handle their process to review e.g. asylum cases and will bypass USCIS proceedings to ask a judge to deport someone based on like 30 second interactions.
A lot of people being deported did everything right and aren't being allowed to let the process play out

@sun @eris rigged by Republicans to be dysfunctional by ensuring we have as few immigration judges as possible to process the cases quickly so we can figure out if someone really should have their asylum claim honored or not
then the Republicans can scream we have all these people inside our borders that shouldn't be here, because the cases are so backlogged...

@sun @feld usually you're kept in a detention center for 6 months or you wait in Tijuana until you get approval by a judge to be free to roam the country, and you wait until the next court proceeding to decide if your asylum is approved in the end or not.
They set that court proceeding like 3-5 years out to decide if they actually get to be granted asylum. Ridiculous amount of time but how it works.
Before ICE would grab and deport them if after that court proceeding it was ruled they can't stay in the country. Now they're not allowing the process to play out at all. Instead of court and immigration reform, people are being punished for doing what the government told them to do, it's not right.
