@feld I was hoping that article would mention protocol ossification [1] and RFC8701 [2] GREASE ( Generate Random Extensions And Sustain Extensibility )

Random ZFS tip:
If you create an encrypted dataset, but don't give the OS the passphrase, and also tell the OS to mount all datasets at boot time, you will not be happy.
I'm trying to fix this self inflicted problem right now. 😠
What kind of LAN game requires a 10 Gb network?
@feld tab and back tab?
I finally found instructions[1] on native compiling the Linux kernel for #nixos and it worked for skylake!
Is there a kernel speed benchmark test? I want to measure any speed difference.
For whatever reason navite build fails with znver3, giving this error:
Reason: builder failed due to signal 4 (Illegal instruction)
But I'm used to seeing that for znver4 or anything avx512.
Maybe I'll try running the skylake native kernel on my AMD EPYC server?

@feld I'm all about the baes
My home router includes a DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem hooked directly to a server with 192 GB of memory and 104 TB of storage.
The dual 10 Gb Ethernet ports then give maximum throughput to the rest of my at home network.
This makes no difference at all to my gigabit ISP download speed and 40 Mbit upload speed.
But it is vaguely entertaining.
My hyperfixation of the moment is getting 10Gb networking in my apartment.
My in-apartment build+backup server has 10Gb Ethernet as does my new laptop dock.
I also have two systems with 2.5Gb Ethernet, so I want a switch that has all that and a few extra ports for future expansion.
I thought fiber for 10Gb would be difficult, but it looks like it's end user friendly now? I'd just have to buy a switch with SFP+ ports and plug in all the pieces, huh!
How many server do I need in my home before it's time to run wires for DC power?
Like, when is it time to replace my AC power supplies with a per-room DC something?
Normalize calling people Hon when they're being judgemental. If they ask, tell them it's short for "Honorable" as a judge is correctly addressed.
