We’re filthy with them. None of them can kiss my feet while standing on a chair because none of them go deeper than adventure paths and Critical Role, but we have TONS of them

@s2208 @theshortbus I guess Matt Mercer had more of an impact on your neck of the woods than mine. I've never seen someone DM badly, but they don't want to. Got exactly one other buddy who likes DMing

Back in the day it was expected that you'd reroll all the time because characters were dying.

Modern D&D caters to theater kids who want to tell an epic story. You're not allowed to kill their characters with a surprise umber hulk.

@theshortbus @s2208 it's different and both types are fun. The problem with modern TT is not that the play style is gay, the players are.
Making ridiculous characters and sticking to the bit for three months can be really fun. That said, I'm mostly over modern DnD at this point. I prefer OSR games and odd settings. One of my groups is doing Achtung Cthulhu during WWII now (as the good guys though)
