@badsamurai OTOH: .com, .net, and .org are an international security risk. They're all operated by Verisign and Verisign will do whatever the US Federal government asks them to do.
That also makes them a security risk for people in the USA who may end up on the bad side of the government for any reason.

@feld @badsamurai .org is operated by the PIR 501(c)(3), but not that it matters (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethos_Capital#History). In general the whole domain and especially CA system is a security risk.
And even ICANN and IANA aren't completely safe from government meddling if you wanna go that far. The damage a government can do to those is more limited though.
