@allison @7666 @pernia @Kerosene @The_Vampire_Brigade @beardalaxy @bronze @HonkHonkBoom @sun @scathach if you want to know why this is a good read
https://blog.cloudflare.com/the-csam-scanning-tool/
Tl;dr, it uses "fuzzy hashing" to stop pedos from changing a few parts of the image to break the hash detection (demonstrated with normal images) and as a result it's easy to see how that can cause a problem.
@7666 @pernia @Kerosene @The_Vampire_Brigade @beardalaxy @allison @bronze @HonkHonkBoom @sun @scathach To quote the post
"The challenge was if criminal producers and distributors of CSAM knew exactly how such tools worked then they might be able to craft how they alter their images in order to beat it. To be clear, Cloudflare will be running the CSAM Screening Tool on behalf of the website operator from within our secure points of presence. We will not be distributing the software directly to users. We will remain vigilant for potential attempted abuse of the platform, and will take prompt action as necessary."
This is the other problems with these tools. It sounds vigilant on paper, that the pedos won't have access to it, but it creates another problem. What if you're a small site owner, who now has to comply with the new "ban CSAM" law and you want to do this because you think pedos should burn too, but they willingly won't let you for whatever reason they feel like?
Hence, it's why that site I mentioned had to develop a method to stop spam by using AI.
sure there's alternatives like fastly, but i'm sure they all do the same stuff
(guess when i turned on cloudflare for wolfgirl.bar)
>1.5 Mbit sustained.
