One could say that Gimp is severely gimped by being written in Gtk and part of GNU.

@phnt i’m going to guess you’re using an ssd, because on hdd it’s tens of seconds for a few hundred files. other file pickers can enumerate thousands of files within a few frames (some within a single frame), and they also have previews, there’s literally no excuse for gnu software being so shit.

@Inginsub Yeah, it's an NVMe SSD that can do about 4GB/s sequential and who knows how many IOPS.

@foolghool Does Chromium use a different file picker? Like Firefox using the Gtk one and Chrome using the Qt/KDE one.
