The Bazzite drama is so fucking funny to me actually.

This is exactly what I would expect would happen to a proprietary "gamer" distro that uses Reddit/Discord as its primary way of communication.

These guys are all incredibly incompetent and don't know shit about computers or programming.

All they know is how to package a bunch of a proprietary shit together "for convenience".

Other distros could do this too but they don't because it sucks.

Niceties? Why would I want my computer to boot into a proprietary DRM platform? If I wanted that I would've just bought a gaming console.

@hj@shigusegubu.club That's a very limited form of modification. It's like saying Windows is free software because it allows me to set a wallpaper. You need it's source code to make real modifications.

@SuperDicq @hj no, you don't. Linux weenies love complaining about the lack of source code, but Windows used to have a very active modding community around it. There used to be shell replacements for Windows that allowed customising the look and feel more than Linux allows today.

The momentum dropped, just as there are much fewer themes for KDE today than there used to be in KDE3/4 times. But it's entirely possible to mod Windows into anything.

@newt @SuperDicq there aren't many themes for windows since win 8. most themes are for WinXP.

@hj @SuperDicq that's what I wrote. Just as there aren't many things for GNOME 3 onwards, Most GNOME themes were for GNOME 2.

Somehow all computer UIs have coalesced into this default corposhit minimalist style some time after 2012, with exceptions being few and far in between.

@SuperDicq @hj GNOME is the default in Debian, so why not? Then again, same goes for KDE. KDE5 has twice as many themes available as KDE6, even though the latter is two years old now and there has been plenty of time.

If anything, Linux environments are no less hostile against modders with their constant API changes. Porting Plasma widgets from KDE5 to 6 is hell, this is personal experience.

@SuperDicq @hj and what about those countless WMs for Windows? There's really plenty, starting from the one in Windows Powertoys and ending with a dozen half-assed DWM-like tiling WMs.

@newt @SuperDicq @hj you can't theme windows all you can do is launch a replacement desktop and kill explorer.exe. Then half your shit doesn't work right and random programs re-launch explorer.exe and break your alternate desktop. it's a total shit-show.

tools in the past that themed windows required turning off shitloads of windows security and editing and replacing DLLs and then they would get reverted on windows update
