@p @sun I was using "strip mining of worthy humanity" to refer by metaphor to the force that took my mom and every intelligent person she grew up with out of rural Alabama and into the relatively big city for an education and work. We are referring to the same thing there
I'm afraid I wasn't here to diagnose the exactly How, but the desert I come from, consisting of only those not worthy enough or not opportunistically minded enough to get out is there. I only grew up in the What that was left.
It's reasonable to assume that my forbears failed me somehow by breaking the great chain of existence in some nebulous way but, while I can draw upon experience to ponder the wasteland, I can't do this for what led up to it. Neither can you, I don't think.
@pwm @p @sun Rural America died because technology made it so there were far less people needed in order to keep the farms producing. That and we never actually recovered from the 1980s farm crisis, and you have parasites like Monsanto that are tying farmers down into exploitative contracts.
