@lina @mint if you read carefully he only dislikes "rage replying" which as far as I understand is when a person sees something they don't like and replies to it in a way nobody enjoys. how the fuck has he figured that
1. unpleasant people existing is a problem you can solve with platform design
2. unpleasant people existing is a problem you *should* solve with platform design
much like yourself, is beyond me
@lina @menherahair @mint he knows I'm not arguing for censorship or making an impotent plea for people to be more polite, something that is never going to happen. All I said was, the basic design decisions of a social media app affect the outcome, and drive by comments bothering people are the natural result of dumping every fucking reply in someone's tl even if they aren't participating in the conversation. This is a really fucking simple concept.
@sun @lina @menherahair My disagreement comes from the fact I find negative connotations of "drive-bys" and "reply guys" ridiculous. It's a social fucking network, in its most raw and unfiltered state. I like it being a chaotic stream of consciousness, makes it more lively than said engagement farms.
@sun @lina @menherahair If something *gets* replies, it's something worth discussion or at least ridicule. There's a pattern I keep seeing with you, you start to passionately argue about some topic (e.g. slop machines) then you felt when getting disagreed in the same heat of passion. This one suggestion in OP sounds like a logical solution you coined for your emotional burden.
@sun @lina @menherahair Either way @phnt made a good argument for replies in timeline. replies often hold more value than starting posts to begin with, by offering more context or argument or derailing it into the more exciting topic entirely. Whether that's a good tradeoff for not having random people responding to public posts is debatable, but people who think it is strike me as those who take more than they give.
