@wizard @throatmuppet @ww i don't really know myself, the > prefix has been traditionally used in (plaintext) emails to signify quotation, which ended up in markup languages and messageboards. My guess is that since quotation formatting becoming a meme "greentext" someone thought it would be a fun idea to have differently-colored text with "<" as an addition to that.

Maybe @eal knows better.

For Akkoma users - you can switch default frontend by going to /akkoma/frontend of your instance (for example https://outerheaven.club/akkoma/frontend )

Ask your admin to install PleromaFE and give it a try.

I hope we can get this change backported to upstream Pleroma

Updating FE on ebin club will take a while since our CI is down and I have to build manually
