I think it rates relatively low as far as lock-in goes, since it's possible to just keep extra copies of all your games on a local drive, and crack them later if Steam gets bought out or taken over.

@graf @TraditionalWhiteGuy @0vtcast @SuperSnekFriend @merchantHelios That could be modified by update, which is why I keep an offline backup set. That being said, if you have the data on hardware you control, you control the data. Cracks are inevitable at that point.

Several years ago I got so pissed off at my ISP I just decided it was much easier to go without internet, and told them to fuck off but with a lot more profanity.
