@veronica if you willfully choose to go into a public space in plain view of cameras and do things you do not want recorded, you're not a victim. Your privacy was not invaded.

@MyWoolyMastadon @veronica this is annoying, yes, but not really worse than Meta/Google buying up your credit/debit card transaction history from data brokers. I find that to be far more invasive than tracking pixels linking your browsing habits to your Facebook profile.
@feld @veronica you forget that people ~do ~not ~know. Facebook doesn't tell them and makes it impossible for normal people to read through five interconnected 500 pages long documents for data privacy. You know. I know. But the average normal person. Does. Not. Know. They don't have the sources, the knowledge and the friends who tell them. They are VICTIMS. Simple as that. To say just because they have a facebook account they don't deserve privacy is an asshole move. Simple as that.

@feld please go outside and talk to people. I promise you. Your neighbour has no clue. Your cashier has no clue. Your kids' teachers doesn't have a clue. Shouting at me does not make that truth go away.

I'll never trust meta. Still, using facebook is a slightly less dystopian experience when privacy laws exist. And they exist because
People.
Deserve.
Privacy.
Why else would we have these laws?
@feld @veronica It's not binary. For one thing, human civilization got by for millennia without every single thing we did outdoors being recorded and stored in perpetuity.
But even granting that being in public means you should always expect to be recorded, there are limits to how much privacy you can reasonably expect to have to sacrifice. To pick a somewhat extreme example, upskirting doesn't become fair game just because there's a CCTV camera nearby.
