First person in my social circles who was a senior engineer got laid off and now they came back begging because the new hires are misusing LLMs and breaking things but he was using them properly and shipping fast.

@gabe I don't know that's exclusively true. I think from the current "AI vendor inflated stock value" perspective that is kind of what they expect, but the tool is still immensely valuable if it requires a skilled engineer to guide it. It can still churn out results faster than a human alone.
@lain @gabe I think we have yet to absorb the reality that young people can't type. They just never learned to touch type.

Keyboards are a slog for them.

They simply don't have the muscle memory because they haven't spent thousands of hours on a real keyboard.

It might as well be considered a disability when compared to older millennials and gen X
I'm pretty sure the AI value-add is gonna be "High skill workers become more productive", NOT "Low skill workers become high skill".

There's like 30 years of history of companies trying to replace their teams with "Software Factories" (🇮🇳) and unleashing low skill developers on their projects. And said projects inevitably ending up with totally missed deadlines, obscene over-budgets, and broken trash. Remember UML function signature generators? Remember Java? ...
