I found gas for less than $6 today and felt a little thrill, which tells me that maybe it's time to get an EV. I am—obviously—not getting a Tesla, and I'd just like a reliable, regular EV that can fit a kid and a few friends. But the offerings in the US seem confusing and gimmicky. I don't want a big truck or an experimental mess full of panel gaps and slow charging. I don't want my feet nailed to the floor of some proprietary subscription HUD; I want to use CarPlay like a normal person

I've been happy with the 2024 vw id.4. it has carplay and Android's version (we use both). It is on the heavy side though. We've taken it for a number of trips and now that both rivian and Tesla have opened up their chargers make things a lot easier. (Despite my hate for Elon, their chargers work soo much better than the various ccs chargers.). We used rivian's charger and the couple times we used it, it worked well.

@encthenet @glyph the best thing Elon ever made was the Supercharger network. Their chargers are just *so* good.
@encthenet @glyph I tell everyone to stay away from Electrify America though unless there is no other option. You may end up with the cable welded to your charge port
@encthenet @glyph agreed, I can't think of a good reason why they aren't consistently putting out the same power. They're unreliable if you need something more than 100kW
