@feld the problem is that queries in the sproc either didn’t get optimized, or bypassed the cache I think. I think Percona used to have a blog post about it.

@feld maybe it depends on the features. When I was a DBA the programmers (ok, I also programmed too) avoided many database features. Stored procedures were harder to upgrade and were slower. There was a dream of being cross DB compatible too by sticking to the SQL standards as much as possible. We’d lived through many tech changes and wanted to minimize work if it’d be needed again.
@feld @rationaldoge if you hold the stone too long (past the line), you are hogging it. There is a lot of funny curling lingo.🙂
@rationaldoge no, double touching was allowed and is clarified as allowed. Media is calling touching granite after handle, double touching. Touching the granite used to be accepted (lots of examples for decades), and now is explicitly disallowed by only clarifying ambiguous rules. Touching the granite does not affect where the 40lb rock ends up. The new rule is to prevent pushing it by the granite for the spirit of the game, but the handle is so much more precise that it’s silly.
@rationaldoge the bigger problem is the honour system for hog line violations. A hog line violation results in the stone being removed. They have handles that detect it, but they cannot detect violations that use the granite with the same tech. They likely need cameras and video review, but that messes with the play clocks.
@feld salted top Stone Wheat Thins are discontinued here. They had a nice thickness and wheat like taste (umami maybe) with small seeds providing texture. It provided a good combination with slices of multi-year aged cheddar (older/stronger than “extra old”). It was ok with other cracker toppings too.
I used to like and prefer ritz, and vegetable thins though I have not been exposed to much. I think Sky Flakes or something like that was a nice bread like flavour.
