Here is the list of demands the Trump administration sent to Canada.

This would turn Canada into a literal colony of the United States.

Not LIKE a colony, not de facto, The US would have near total control over the Canadian economy.

The US kind of has to make those extreme demands because their disaster scenario is that China partners with Canada and uses it as a staging area to push civil war into the US.

But they're not gonna convince anyone of anything unless they come with some VERY attractive deal points, which as far as I can tell, they're not.

But if they don't make a deal then China gets their staging area, and if they invade Canada to close the staging area then China gets a second Iran.
