2@gabriel @matthew @feld much of the software we still use was created by mailing patches and ftping tarballs - the forges are a nice gimmick, but not required. not having a forge might even act as a filter for low quality "contributions" now, it keeps away the people (or llms) who can't be bothered to write a mail.

3@feld @gabriel @matthew sounds pretty reasonable to me. i wonder how many spammy patches would even arrive via mail, the normal spam is not a problem for me anymore. the occasional one really being delivered by gmail/outlook/etc goes through. the rest is removed by graylisting, not even bayesian filters.
