> Sadly, corporate email providers soon started taking steps that made it harder to use Delta Chat reliably with their services. If at all. One by one my family and friends stopped using it.

so you are telling me the reason your contacts stopped using Delta Chat was exactly because the classic email usage is horrible and a terrible experience for anyone that wants a WhatsApp replacement, it sounds to me they are on the right track then

@strypey notice that you can have several accounts/profiles in Delta Chat tho, you could have a dedicated address for the (very few according to what you say) contacts that use DC, and keep using the other address in DC just for unencrypted emailing

migrating addresses is super easy in DC nowdays, you can go to settings add new relay/address, then re-configure in a new profile the old address for unencrypted email usage

With #ArcaneChat not only you have end-to-end encrypted #email without the provider seeing the content, you can also edit your message and fix your typos ๐Ÿ’…

level up your email game and move your communications to ArcaneChat โœจ

the best part: it is free and without lock-in with a specific provider that force you to use their (often paid) servers

@froge literally, the encryption key can never change in a chat since all the logic and data is in the clients, you can even nuke the server completely and start it fresh and most people wouldn't even notice the server was wiped ๐Ÿ˜‚

not to talk about easy migration if the server is known to be compromised, all while keeping all your chats, groups and contacts

also the server can't change or drop the encryption of any chat and when you open an invite link it avoids MITM attack of the server, etc.

@jwildeboer about "Getting of proprietary tech", I wonder if what Signal is using in AWS is some proprietary server service, would be good to figure out, not that it matters much since if something is centralized and you can't self-host it out of AWS then there is no really way to use it in a way that is not proprietary by nature

@dougwade Delta Chat would still be a better option, besides being YEARS ahead of such new solution, in Delta Chat you don't depend on a particular server, for example here in fediverse if your instance goes down suddenly you lose your profile, with delta chat you can have several instances at the same time so if one goes down the other keeps working (this is new and still under development), the fedi solution would also need that level of resilience to be comparable
