There is an interesting argument, probably only similar, not 1:1, though, I once heard: There are countries like Kazakhstan where it is illegal to be gay and therefore gayness just does not exist in the public consciousness. If a man brings another man a flower in such a country, there isn't even a thought spent of it. Because being a faggot doesn't even cross their minds.
There are countries where men give each other a kiss on the cheek (to each their own, I am too germanic autism for this) and other countries make fun of them for it. There are also those that say it is gay to hug a man.
