@drwho @MuseumJoe there are strong questions about whether or not the LG thing is even happening. I didn't watch the video (2 hours? ain't got no time for that), but this guy breaks down why they didn't really prove anything at all and likely misunderstand basic functionality. The Automatic Content Recognition is real, but the rest might not be. And the "we own the glass" statement wasn't even said by anyone at LG??

"It's scanning your network" -- no that's just mDNS / SSDP

"It's recording your voice to text" -- they just showed logs when you use voice search. "But it's always listening" -- yeah it supports a wake word like "Alexa" -- the default is “Hi LG".

Not by anyone at LG Electronics, which is subsidiary of LG Corporation which owns a controlling majority in LG Ad Solutions, which does the ACR.

Overall I recommend watching it, but there isn't really much new. Put it in the background.
@feld @drwho @MuseumJoe Basically everything in that video isn't exclusive to LG. ACR, preselecting "Agree to all" checkboxes to TOS/privacy policy agreements. Scanning the network for devices, or even scanning nearby wifi networks. Heck, everyone's phone does the latter to provide the coarse location services which is based on cell towers and WiFi networks.
