We engage with decentralization protocols a lot (many nerds love to) but make no mistake: in the end, the app needs to work and be easy to use. #deltachat is a cross-platform FOSS offering, with guaranteed security levels, close to user expectations ... major factors in driving adoption!

True, the email system is not necessarily better than #xmpp ... but please compare with http://chatmail.at which is fast, ephemeral and secure, with delta inherently being a peer-to-peer E2EE messenger :)

@Laurenz0071 @delta yes, check https://autocrypt2.org/

edit: it's referred to as "Reliable Deletion" here instead of the standard "(Perfect) Forward Secrecy". I guess the goal is to make people more aware of what the feature actually is. If you don't delete your messages off your device, Forward Secrecy provides you no real benefit as your messages will still be readable from a seized device.

anyway, there already is some PFS in DeltaChat -- your SMTP/IMAP connections are protected with it, and so is p2p webxdc connections via Iroh. This just adds it to the individual message level.
