The concerted jokes about the lack of air conditioning in Europe seems to me like an effort to paint Europe as being third-world, effectively dismissing the real problem that it is being invaded by the third-world.

@black6 Let's not forget that in the same way that Europe finds itself unfortunately suffering from regulatory over reach that has left the masses suffering, the US (albeit to a less existential degree) has also found itself in a similar situation with issues such as regulations on vehicle emissions which has decimated the small and mid-size diesel vehicle industry. Instead of pointing and laughing, we should be learning valuable lessons from their real and unfortunate suffering.

There's actually no regulation on AC here, that's a meme. There are SOME regulations on how your house can look - you can't paint it pink. People are saying they can't put ACs because of this, but mostly just not a thing unless their neighbors are the devil.
The real reason people don't have AC is purely cultural - like the same reason Americans don't have bidets. People feel like "I don't really need it" and that feeling has a strong pull.
The regulatory situation is also weird.
You can't get a soda bottle with a removable cap, but those weirdo "anti-spill" spouts on gas cans don't exist here. Incandescent lights are also still widely available.
Zoning is very strict, with many places forbidding new buildings entirely, but WeTLAnDs (swamps) where you have to protect the nAtuRaL BioDiVeRsiTy (mosquitos) is not a thing.

You would think that - at least - if a person was honestly afraid of a toilet paper shortage back in 2020, then that person would be thinking about a bidet at least as an emergency backup solution.

The hygiene issue is made more significant (in the eyes of Americans) with anything touching the butt. Of course, the obvious solution is paper towels which would be dispensed in a trash can, instead of being flushed, but because TP is designed to be flushable, trash cans are rarely included close enough to toilets in men's restrooms for this to be a solution.
@BowsacNoodle @black6 @cjd @Robert_Edwardly And then we circle back to the issue of apes and invaders not understanding how to do any of this correctly, wiping themselves with napkins or paper towels, and throwing it in a trash can that was never meant to be used for this purpose, undoing all of the hygiene advantages of modern day plumbing, and turning public restrooms into third world shit holes.
