A dark horse candidate is somebody they have tight control over, it's just that they've had no exposure to the public eye.

Their ideal candidate would be a black Mamdani. Blacks like him b/c he's black, muslims like him because he's muslim, jews like him because be's (actually) a jew.

I'm trying to recall when the Obama push began for his '08 presidency. He just seemed to come out of nowhere. But yeah, for sure... "somebody they have tight control over" applies.
