*RAM prices go up for a bit*

"Well that's it, if you have a PC you'll never get to upgrade it again, PC building is done forever now, this is just how it's gonna be"

Why are people so quick to this assumption
the best way ive seen it explained is that

ai companies are buying ram thats yet to be produced to put in accelerator cards that are yet to be finalised to install inside datacenters that are yet to be built using profits that are yet to materialise

its all debt based in this area meaning once it comes crashing down someone is getting fucked and i suspect itll be the manufacturers so its entirely possible we might genuinely see a regression in consumer computer hardware

i dont think pc building is dead but we're definitely gonna plateau for a while

@zuki @eris it's kinda even worse than that and kinda bullshit at the same time.

supposedly scam altman bought tons of RAM that he couldn't even use simply to prevent competitors from being able to compete with him by depriving them of hardware.

but also tons of new systems are actively being built so they're not strictly just sitting on a pile of RAM not being used at all.
i fucking hope chinese hardware finally catches up. i need allwinner and longsoon to kick the shit out of intel, highkey

intel can go bankrupt i dont care anymore. they deserve it. their current state of failure is self inflicted
