An honor box without the honor, it's still kinda neat. At least you don't have the risk of your bag of chips getting stuck in the machine and you can't get it out.
Also you can sell much more fragile and arbitrarily shaped stuff. Like, a mini-cake or a dozen eggs in a vending machine is typically impossible, but with this it's trivial.
Ugh, reminds me of a farm in Ireland that had an honour box selling eggs. The honour box wasn't being honoured so they put a camera on it. Turns out gyppos were driving around the countryside raiding the honour boxes. They'd put in some small change in case there was a sensor then they're take all the eggs.

It was supposed to humanise them and make them more relateable but it just made them seem like bigger scumbags. Even as a lefty teenager I found it offputting.
