If you are against universal ID or central government databases you're a fucking idiot. IRS has all my tax information from my employers but doesn't have my national health care tax forms for some reason, and I can't get them because the healthcare website can't verify my identity in less than 7-10 days after uploading my passport despite my IRS account knowing my identity and obviously I paid all my taxes using this identity as well as have a federal id that they just can't verify. This is fucking insane and idiotic and anybody that defends this shit should be put in a mental asylum.

32I love how the healthcare gov and irs gov and every other government website is just MISSING BIG BUNCHES OF INFORMATION, this gives me GREAT confidence
@sun me trying to apply to travel to the usa and finding information that conflicts with itself on the same government agency's websites AND with other agencies websites
in the end i did everything according to the Estonian foreign ministry travelling guide to the USA and everything worked out perfect

@sun and i knowingly ignored certain things that should have applied to me according to atleast one agency's website
@CapitalB we literally only get the worst version and combination of every single thing.
@sun NO UNIVERSAL ID we'll just use Social Security for that even though it was never designed for the purpose.
@pettanko in Japan we have a card that is just used for everything and it's fucking awesome
@pettanko btw it's a cryptographic smart card not some paper bullshit
@sun @CapitalB and remember, on top of that, juan and his friends come in, give whatever name they feel like to escape their prior criminal history, and then are politely asked by our government where they would like to be settled in the interior of the us, and then they're handed our productivity while the same gov doing the handing out tells us they'll put us in prison if we use words that hurt the feelings of criminals
nofx was right about something, murder the government

You're mistaking accessible information with goverment incompetence.
I will guarantee that even if you centralize information the US goverment would 100% fuck it up and employ bureaucratic procedures to even look up table entires.
And that's assuming they don't sell all of our info or poorly secure it.
Why use a redaction tool when you can use a black highlighter on a pdf.

@dictatordave @CapitalB a friend of mine couldn't get a bank account at our local bank because "someone" was already using his SSN. He said, but it's my ssn. they said, it's already being used. he said, then give me the money in the account since it's my ssn. they said it's not you. he said check their ssn. they said they can't for "privacy".
@NonPlayableClown this is an implicit plea for a competent version
I'd propose a new goverment system to really fix the problem. ![]()
@NonPlayableClown yeah we need one or more of those, preferably many
@pettanko it also has a great app
@sun I'm a fucking idiot who cares about freedom and privacy more than I do convenience
@sun You're earning a block for this.
@Rom13AncapHypoc you blocked me once already guy
@sun Yes, I too would love to forsake any and all semblance of privacy I still have left, all in the name of convenience.
@sun this sounds like more of a problem with the health care web site than any lack of government databases. companies have been using credit reporting agencies, social security numbers and government IDs already to verify identity immediately
@Phobos you don't have privacy you just have inconvenience
@meowski having no privacy laws and having your data in 20+ private databases that all can leak it is worse than just having a smartcard id like dozens of other smaller and better run countries
@lebronjames75 @sun @pettanko I actually like Estonia a lot. I wish it wasn't so secluded from the internet.
@sun experience tells us that the leaks are going to happen whether it's one centralized database or a bunch of smaller ones.
i get that in theory it could be more convenient if everyone is forced to have a standardized computer chip in their possession with some trusted proprietary software running on it, or android/apple phones that aren't rooted running their trusted malware services, but in practice the federal government is incompetent, and more centralized power only leads to more abuse, and these things tend to get cracked and circumvented anyway.
