Nah, what it means is they're going to algorithmically de-emphasize the political stuff - which, for the mental health of people on there, is probably a good thing...

But they're going to boost posts like "wow coffee is so delicious", "wonderful morning", "look at this beautiful butterfly" type stuff, which when people start to create it just BECAUSE it gets the most reactions, then it becomes a torrent of slop.

@cjd Most people there seem to claim to not be reading the algorithms, certainly I don't. I barely read bluesky at all.

But that sounds pretty same-phase to me. Next phase has to be income of some sort. Surely. They need more money fast.

I don't think I even have an account over there... But problem with this type of platform is that advertisers are really weird about their ad being seen next to political stuff.

Advertisers, in general, are incredibly risk averse. If even one person throws a tantrum and writes a letter to them about how they're associating with something that person doesn't like, they consider this a "scandal". And there are so many opportunities on BlueSky for an ad to show up next to a really spicy post, which can then get screenshotted and sent around...
