2or maybe i was just young, naive and overly optimistic and the web already sucked
@mkljczk It sucked in different ways. Tables for layouts, java applets and flash widgets for more fancy websites, because HTML and CSS just didn't cut it enough. Then JS use exploded. But at least <marquee> wasn't deprecated...

@PurpCat @mkljczk It kinda did. You don't need flash to play video anymore, or for complicated layouts. Later versions of CSS brought things like flexboxes so you no longer have the meme "how do you center a div vertically and horizontally", or "how do you have a logo on the left and menu controls on the right on the same line".
