To be fair .. if your kid is blowing their entire income on Funco Pops and video games and now can't afford to pay rent every month, at what point does a parent put their foot down and say "Enough. You need to learn better money management!" ? Euros don't really understand just how badly consumerism affected American mental development.

That said, we also have had enough selfish Boomers and Boomerbrains fuck their kids over without so much as a blink and that also fucked up American mental development.

That was my point overall. I do a second shift every day working on raising my kids and I pinch pennies for their inheritance. But I'm not going to bail them out and give up my martial arts projects to pay for some CRT degree or their bankrupt organic basketweaving business.

The prodigal son didn't run the household after his return, the older brother got everything. At the end of the parable, the father tells the older brother, "all that I have is yours."
A parent can help to some extent when it comes to their kid's decisions, but I'm not going to teach my children responsibility only to keep them from having to actually be responsible.

My bad. You did say "give up all my hopes and dreams." I guess we just see things different. My biggest hopes and dreams include my children living free from debt slavery. Your biggest appears to be accruing wealth to spend on yourself. I guess we have wildly different hopes and dreams. Best of luck to you, sir. I hope your hopes and dreams are fulfilled.

No dichotomy. In the original post, the father had a Harley. Sacrificing a Harley to keep your child out of debt slavery is and should be a no-brainer. Keep telling yourself you have the moral high ground, it will help you sleep at night.
