Well, OK then. I have an algorithm, let's call it 'Algorithm A'.
When you are searching for prime numbers, you might use Algorithm A, or the Sieve of Eratosthenes, to determine which numbers are prime.

In algorithm A, you try to divide your candidate number by all the numbers less than it. Or less than its square root. If you're clever, you limit your trial divisors to prime numbers less than the square root. But all these methods fall under the definition of Algorithm A. As you might imagine, it runs out of steam for 200-digit long numbers, and you need to figure out a way to prune the trial-divisor tree. By a lot.

OK, now: Algorithm A for social media .. You log in and start scrolling your home listings. And I (the server) show you everything posted by the first friend in your list, starting in 2023 or whenever. And then when you get up to today, March 12, 2026, I start showing you the second freind in your friend list. Simple! You have a scroll wheel!

So, that's what I'm talking about when I say @matty is testing algorithms. He is waaay beyond Algorithm A. I have noticed some of it happening in beta. And I am temporarily switching to non-beta due to the annoyance level. But I'll be trying beta again soon...

So, ummmm, is there, apart from the source code, a hand-waving explanation of that floating doohickey, and the philosophy of what is shown in 'older' and 'newer' and 'middle'? And in what order? Looks kinda like it is new-to- old as we scroll down, ...
