25 amazing milk facts you didnt know

Show
1. Cow nose prints are unique like human finger prints. That means cows can use smart phones, or atleast unlock them.

2. Warm freshsqueezed raw milk has anti-bacterial effect

3. Milk sucks in bad and strong smells, so if you leave a milk open for a day in a fridge full of onion, you can get onion flavoured milk.

4. A good cow makes ~40L of milk a day (in estonia), which comes to 9000 to 12000L of milk a year per cow. And you are proud if you can make 1 email a day lmao

5. Milk used to be made into glue, with the protein Casein

6. Most people have been lactose intolerant in the world for most of history. But despite that, we kept drinking milk so much that some gained tolerance via genetics, that is extra to short term tolerance via bacterial cultures in the body that can help you digest lactose proper.

7. Cleopatra (according to a few sources) took constant milk baths. If you want to feel respected and royal, you know what to do.

8. Milk has Tryptophan in it, which is known to help you get a good sleep, as it is required for the production of melatonin (sleep chemical). It is absolutely OK to drink a glass (or more) of milk before going to bed

9. Add a little salt to milk, and it lasts even longer

10. Humans have drank milk for 8000 years. They will probably drink that even more.

11. Cows dont see red. The Matador's red cape is red for theatrical reasons, and to hide blood stains. The bulls react to the movement of the cloth as a perceived threat, and any color works just as well.

12. England has a yearly cheese hill rally. People throw a cheese wheel down a hill and they fall and chase the cheese wheel.

13. The real milk freezing temp is -0.530C (+- a few % of a C depending on water content of the milk)

14. 4% of all cheese in the world, is stolen.

15. Humans are the only mammal that drink milk actively as an adult. And also the only mammal, that as an adult looked at a cow and went "Yup, i would drink that every day"

16. Cheese vaults are sometimes more guarded than actual money banks. For example, multiple cheese storages in italy holds 250 000 000+€ worth of cheese in it! Invest in cheese

17. Some people are extremely afraid of all milk and milk products. It is called Lactaphobia.

18. Cheeses like Mimolette or Stilton, have (cheese) mites in them. And thats fucking disgusting.

19. A cow calf drinks 4-8 liters of milk a day, which is 10 - 20 % of it's bodyweight

20. One of the more expensive cheeses, is Pule, aka Donkey cheese, at a price of ~1000€/kg. Why is it so expensive? No idea, but they say it is the cheese that makes you young, makes your immune system, and works as a aphrodisiac

21. To make 1KG of cheese, you need 10L of milk.

22. Cows see about 330 degrees at any point, and with a slight head tilt, see the last 30 degrees behind that they dont see naturally. That means, its very difficult to sneak up on a cow, if you want to do that

23. Cheese is one of the most calcium rich foods. That means that cheese pizza (mmm quattro fromaggi) cannot be a unhealthy food.

24. It's one of the many foods that people let go bad, and rancid, so that they can enjoy it later, perhaps years later even.

25. Worlds oldest known cheese is found in china, on the neck of a buried bronze age mummy. Its ~3500 years old and is a mix of cow milk, goat milk, and kefir grains. It was likely that the kefir grains were a gift for the after life, as they were used to kickstart fermentation of cheese.

🤓 some elaborations:
1. fingerprints are not actually unique, just meaningfully unlikely to be duplicates
2. this is a techinically true thing like urine being sterile but it doesnt last long and it very quickly becomes a good medium for bacterial growth what with all the nutrients, also udders are usually not clean in industrial settings and while you can wipe the udders you can't disinfect them each time or the poor cow would be super fucking chafed
3. this is because of the fat content and is also why milk good if you eat too spicy
5. you can also make a plastic like material this way, it's a bit brittle once cured and does eventually decay so it's not the best but it's a moldable and sculptable material that can be made entirely without the hydrocarbon industry
7. specifically mare or donkey milk
18. you're a fucking coward and mimolette is fucking awesome, it's like one of the top 5 best cheeses
23. while milk has an okay amount of calcium that is mostly dairy industry propaganda that gives it this reputation
sardines have more calcium than most dairy and cabbage has about as much calcium as most dairy products

@mer VRO dont @ mewith 23, i said CHEESE in 23, and milk has TWICE the calcium per liter compared to cabbage per kilo (the weight comparisons are almost roughly the same) and its A LOT easier to drink liters of milk than to eat kilos of cabbage in a day (and combine it with fact 21 it comes to ~20x the calcium found in cabbage)

and sardines are only HALF of cheese calcium, but considering you eat a small tin of sardines, but can eat more cheese then the math speaks for MILKSELF. PERIOD.

I have NEVER had a bone fracture in my life. And i've done some SHIT in my life

inb4 someone goes "um actually too much calcium makes bones brittle" im gonna WRONG them preventatively: That ONLY happens if you also consume foods/liquids that are basic (alkaline) (like antacids, for example) while calcium maxxing. It's called Milk-alkali syndrone, just dont eat alkaline products.
