@kaia i still don't fully understand why that genre has some success. "i'm a woman but i'm disgusting" is a very strange approach.

Self-depreciation rules supreme even among male comedians — but they have found other ways. I've grown tired of Amy Schumer's self-deprecation jokes, but otherwise — she's a great comedian, same goes for the whole female cast of Mr.Show.
I think female comedy might have success — as long as they are given stage. I know a few girls myself who make jokes a lot in the environment they are comfortable with, but otherwise they don't — they hold back, they do not think it would be appropriate.
This stereotype is something that should have never existed, if women fail at being funny — so be it, but it's not like they shoudn't try.
