@kaia 15 years ago "overpopulation" was presented as a potential catastrophe along with climate change. we could benefit from declining birthrates if not for the welfare system etc. expecting endless growth; because it would mean less competition over resources, especially land, and would reduce pollution.

@meso @kaia @genmaicha population growth and specialization have solved all our solved problems to date. the problem is the earth is being stressed for resources at current growth. there is no conflict between those two positions. you are not wrong but it is also not any different than our current trajectory. a lot of problems are solved with more space and more energy. I think some people don't want improvements if they don't come from socialism, see opposition to nuclear energy.
@jeffcliff @mangeurdenuage @kaia population growth by people that substinence farm and burn cow shit for warmth isn't sustainable, but neither is population growth by rich white people that consume thousands of times more per individual than mud-hut guy. you have to lift people out of poverty and their birth rate slows but still keep the population growth positive
@jeffcliff @kaia @mangeurdenuage there is no future without fixing the prosperity and manufacturing slave problem. importing immigrants literally just makes everything worse. fix their countries by stopping exploiting them for your rich country.
