Probably the most influential thought that influences how I act as a parent: The trauma stops with me. All the shit my parents dumped on me, that they got dumped on them by their parents it does not get passed on.

I agree that there is "generational commitment" but there's also things that you as a guardian/parent/whatever can actually do (if you are willing to work on yourself). "Generational commitment" makes it sound so big and hard (and it is hard) but a lot of the time it's just you and your partner making a decision.

You can't fix all the issues in the world but so much internalized pain can just stop (at least for your kids).

@tante two years of therapy helped but it remains a recurring struggle to break the generational trauma chain. When i fail at least i try to be honest about it towards my son, if not in the situation, then afterwards. Have you read from Franz ruppert "splits on the soul" (seelische spaltung und innere heilung)? I've also attended a weekend of family aufstellung ( took part as role player only). Ruppert researches intergenerational trauma specifically. I was deeply impressed.
