@hfaust Ironically, I’ve just finished a book about how humans descended from animal-like creatures, and now I realise what bullshit is the “Planet of the apes” concept.

tl;dr mutations, that our ancestors underwent in the area of the Great African rift, which separated us from the then-regular proto-apes, left us without two powerful limbs (they’ve become our legs) and fangs, among some other things like less hair. from the point of view of evolution and capability to survive, the new species were weaker. And exactly ⧸because they were weaker⧸, they had to invent tools and weapons to compensate for the lost fangs, which then-regular proto-apes used to defend, to attack and to pierce through the skin of some local hairy pigs, for example, to get to their flesh after hunt. The first tools that the human used were small sharp rocks, which were used for cutting. Only much later something like axes appeared. Just to use the tool systematically took the first proto-humans 1.5–2 million years. One chapter in the book is dedicated to describing the behaviour of modern chimpanzees (whose DNA structure surprisingly matches human’s), and the result of observations was basically that an ape will never become human, despite that one can teach it to make sharp rocks and force the animal to use it – because the animal doesn’t see, why it should. It has fangs and four powerful limbs. It thus has no need for an axe, it’s fitting the nature, its local habitat fine as it is, the ape doesn’t have to compensate for something with the tools. And as it never will use tools systematically, it’ll never evolve. At least, until the circumstances, which prodded the human species to emerge, would appear again, but the chance is extremely small. What these circumstances were is another long story.
